Sweeney Funeral Directors have been involved in the funeral business since 1860. The business was founded by Michael Sweeney in Louisburgh, Co. Mayo. In the beginning the main business was carpentry where we manufactured coffins and caskets as well as providing other funeral related services.

By the 1940s we ceased the manufacturing business to concentrate solely on the business of Funeral Directors. At that time coffins and caskets were purchased from Millers of Bray in Co. Wicklow. Currently we source our coffins and caskets from the local supplier Eamon Glennon Ltd. Glennon’s are based in Longford and source their materials and work force locally where possible.

Six generations later Sweeney Funeral Directors is run by Peter Sweeney in their modern funeral home and embalming facility in Mayo.

In 2018 Michael Sweeney begun providing funeral services in his native Boyle, Co. Roscommon. After many years involvement in the family business it is our aim to provide the highest standard of service to the  family’s who choose us to care for their deceased loved ones.
